Junior School Curriculum

A number of innovative programs are offered in the Junior School. All students in the senior class are provided with leadership opportunities and training through their involvement in student councils which are given a set time in the timetable. To complement this, the Year 6 students also participate in 'Aussie Optimism', a proactive program which develops self-management and interpersonal skills. In Year 5 we run the 'Friendly Schools' program to address the social needs of the students, and in Years 3-6 we have implemented the 'You Can Do It' program which teaches the students the four pillars of success - persistence, confidence, getting along and organisation.

There is a commitment to computer technology and the development of computer skills so that students can acquire the tools to enhance their learning. In the area of LOTE, students from Year 3 onwards can learn either Italian or Japanese, two languages which they can continue to study in the Middle and Senior Schools. There is also a strong emphasis on The Arts, particularly in music and drama. The Junior School has two choirs, a Year 3 choir and the Year 4-6 choir, which perform in the Catholic Schools' Performing Arts Festival and other major events. We have peripatetic teachers who teach various musical instruments and you also have the option of joining the Junior School Band.

Students in the Junior School regularly celebrate mass and in Years 3 and 4, all students are involved in sacramental programs which prepare them to receive the Sacraments of Penance and Eucharist. Prayer is an important part of school life and each day begins with quiet time where students are engaged in reflective and prayerful activity.
