Junior School Leadership
A key focus of the Junior School is to develop independent learners
with good social and communication skills. The Year 6 Councils and the Student
Representative Council (SRC) are two vehicles that contribute to this vision.
Each class has a student representative on the SRC. This
student is elected after a rigorous but enjoyable process of nominations, speeches and
elections. Class meetings are held regularly and the class student representative not only
reports back to the class about matters arising from SRC meetings but also takes relevant
issues from class meetings to the SRC.

In Year 6 every student is involved each semester in one of five
councils - Assembly Council, Community Council, Liturgy Council, Recreation Council and
Publications Council. The students learn many skills including how to participate and run
a meeting, and how to contribute positively to the school community. The Councils form an
important part of the Year 6 curriculum and are timetabled during class time.
There are many other opportunities that are offered to
students to develop their leadership skills. These vary from attending community forums
and leadership camps to training as altar servers to staff supporting student-initiated
committees dealing with important issues of interest (e.g. conserving water in the school
and at home).
