Junior School Pastoral Care

   vv

The Junior School is committed to the development of the whole person and therefore all staff members have a responsibility to contribute in appropriate ways, according to their roles and responsibility, to the pastoral care of the students.

Within the Junior School, students are provided with an effective care network. Whilst pastoral care is not the prerogative of certain individuals, we do have staff who have particular skills and responsibility in this area. A school counsellor and psychologist is available on campus three days a week and, in consultation with teachers and parents, provides valuable support for students when they need special care and attention. The Campus Minister also works closely with students and staff, and has particular responsibility for formulating and overseeing the College's Harassment and Bullying Policy.

Students in Year 6 are given opportunities to contribute to the pastoral care of their fellow students through the Community Council. It is their task to mingle with the Preparatory School students during lunchtime to help them play co-operatively and mediate when minor conflicts arise.

Many of our programs (e.g. Religious Education, Friendly Schools, Aussie Optimism, You Can Do It) are designed to assist our students develop quality relationships with others in the school community. These programs are complemented by the College's Five Key Principles and Discipline Policy.
