| As one of the first Catholic College's in
Western Australia to embrace Middle Schooling, Ursula Frayne Catholic College is proud to
be at the cutting edge of educational innovation and is extremely well placed to take
education into the new millennium. Above all, however, the College firmly believes that
students from the Middle School, instilled with a Middle School education, will be well
equipped for their future academic endeavours in the Senior School and beyond. There is
no particular way to 'do' middle schooling. Instead, there are a set of values and
principles which underpin middle schooling practices. Ursula Frayne Catholic College has
developed a structure in response to the particular needs of our students. |
 |
The curriculum of the Middle School is designed to be specifically sensitive to the
developmental needs of young adolescents in the 11-14 years age group. The College strives
to foster an environment based on harmonious working relationships, responsibility and
mutual respect while endeavouring to excite and stimulate students towards the notion of
life-long learning and dealing with change.
Middle Schooling at Ursula Frayne Catholic College embraces inter-disciplinary team
delivery, the multi-age grouping of students and flexible timetable arrangements. Students
are grouped into three Cluster groups to help them feel valued and safe and to foster
mutual understanding and respect. The curriculum emphasises the development of positive
relationships between students and students and between teachers and students. Students
are positively challenged to develop independent learning skills and are encouraged to
work collaboratively.
The Middle School curriculum aims to provide students with the opportunities to develop
the skills that will enable them to meet future challenges with confidence, successfully
deal with change and continue to learn throughout their lives.
